Turkey Trot

On Thanksgiving morning I ran the Turkey Trot with my Aunt Heather. 

We finished it in 31 minutes.  We ran the whole race, but had to stop once to tie my shoe. 

It was really fun.

5K

I ran a 5K with my mom.  It was really cold.  It was on a dirt trail with lots of hills.  I was the only kid there.  We had to do two laps.  On the 2nd lap I stopped waiting for my mom and ran way ahead of her.  I ran the whole 2nd lap!  I did it in under 30 minutes.  I got a cool Tshirt and a $10 Kiwi loco gift card.  It was a lot of fun!  I plan to run more races.

(Note from her mother:   she was a hit!!!  I almost let her back out when we got there and saw that all the participants were college age or older, but since we had paid, we decided to just go for it.  EVERYONE that she passed cheered her on. I crossed the finish line much later than she did, but I could hear everyone cheering her on when she crossed (it was a cross country course where you could almost see the entire course...thus the two laps).  I'm so proud of her and I'm pretty sure she's caught the running bug!)

Volcano

Last week we made a volcano.  We made it out of a water bottle, newspaper, and glue.  Then we painted it and made a village out of clay.  We mixed baking soda and vinegar with food coloring to make it explode.  My dad poured the vinegar in and it got everywhere.  It was really cool!

The Earliest People

   Nomads were people who traveled place to place finding food.  They wore the same clothes every day.  Their clothes were made with animal skin.  Nomad girls and women picked berries and caught lizards for food.  Men hunted buffalo and other animals. 

    In the beginning Nomads lived in teepees made from animal hide in warm weather.  In colder weather they lived in caves. People found out because they drew pictures on the walls of the caves. 

   Nomads stopped moving when they came to a river.  They stayed there because the animals didn’t move since there was water.  They built villages because they didn’t move.   They planted crops.  This made them the first farmers.  They watered the crops by building a pulley called a shaduf.  It had a rock at the end and a bowl in front.  They pushed the rock up and the bowl went into the water scooping up the water. 

   The first Nomad villages had gates around them to keep animals in.   They built walls to keep bandits and wild animals out.   One of the tallest and strongest walls was 10 feet thick and 35 feet high.  These were the first cites.  They found out you could catch animals and tame them to get milk and food. 

   My favorite part about Nomad studies was making our own Nomad village.

Soccer

This is my fourth year in soccer.  My team name is the Rapids. 

My favorite position is midfielder. We have won one game.  We lost to the Matrix by one point.

I really like playing soccer.

All About Me - 8-31-2012

I am in 4th grade.  I like to read, ride my bike, draw, and write.  I like being homeschooled.  Its fun.  My favorite part is spelling.  I am reading Farmer Boy.

Today I won second place on a writing contest. It was an essay about America.  I won $15! I will type my essay next week.  I'm going to be in the newspaper.
